Welcome to The Kumkuat Korner

So here is the scoop.
I've been dying to write a blog where I can write my thoughts on whatever, interesting things that happened, randoms jokes I heard (I won't make you guys suffer so don't worry!), or if anyone sends a request on a topic, I will write, write, write.
Now like all good people (I think I qualify as good), there will be days when I will post pictures or polls, or fun facts if I am dry as a desert (for writing I mean), but I will promise I will write at least a piece everyday (or more)! That way, my fellow followers, you will never be tired of the reading my tidbits.

My first order of business. I will post a very interesting read someone send me via email. (Thanks Gene!) More of that on the next post!

Gulangyu Island

Gulangyu. It is no secret that this city is one of my favorite destination I have been to so far. According to China Daily, Gulangyu is the 2nd most visited tourist attraction after National Museum of Beijing. Main reason I love the island? No cars. No buses. No bikes. One of my favorite houses in the whole island. I mean, sure the island police have a little electric golf cart and as does a couple of the expensive, luxury hotels that reside in the island. For packages and delivery, there are men who walk with a large wooden cart like some sort of ox plowing through a field, except its not a field but a pavement and its an uphill. The people are welcoming, nosy and curious yet very laid back. Its a slow pace of life here with a population a little over 200,000 people. And almost everyone and their uncle is some sort of fisherman, or businessman. People's home's are open and sell just about any trinket you could think of. Especially ice cold water and popsicle...

At last! Taizhou, my new City and more!

Hello my lovies! I am sorry for any lack of updates. I moved into my new apartment and the Internet was not properly set up. But now it is! And I have so many updates to post for you! So keep an eye out for them! Now back to our regularly scheduled program! TAIZHOU!   Pronounced Tie Joe. This beautiful city is absolutely something I never would have expected to live in. With just a little over 5 million people, Taizhou is a mix of new and old held by traditions and customs as well rapidly growing industrialization. It has been over a 13 days since I arrived and I am still blown away with how incredibly accepting people are. Of course I get stared at. I stick out like a sore thumb. Mostly everyone here (especially the women) are slender, while I, on the other hand, am the complete opposite: I stand taller than most Chinese women (even some of the men) and have a whole lotta curves!  For example, here in the picture, this is Mrs Wang, (known to me offici...

Supermarkets in Taizhou

It's relatively easy to say that supermarket in China are just like the ones in the U.S. Heck, I've been to supermarkets in Mexico AND France and its pretty much the same thing there too. While there are a few differences here and there, the basics are still there. Imported produce and also pricier. You go in, find what you need, buy it, leave. Of course 95% of the things that they carry are China brands. They do have things from other countries like Pocky from Japan, and American candies like M&M's, and even Ferrero Rocher and it's expensive. I doubt anyone buys it. The vegetables here are cheap. Most are locally grown and are sold straight from the harvester to the Supermarket. One of the differences about supermarkets here is that no food ever gets thrown out. It may have mold or lost some leaves, or old, but it will get sold...at a lower price too. People actually look out for these old "clearance" produce especially the older generatio...
